The more you numb yourself,the more you bury who you truly are

At just 8 years old, I unknowingly adopted a survival strategy—numbing myself. Whenever I felt uncomfortable emotions I couldn’t express, I turned to television as my escape. And so, the avoidance continued. Even as an adult I avoided uncomfortable emotions by watching television, mobile, and living in an alternate fantasy world to avoid the discomfort and to feel temporary good. But here’s the truth- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳,𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲. When we numb ourselves—whether through distractions like social media, food, work, or any other escape—we push down our real emotions and avoid facing what’s truly going on inside us.  Over time, this creates distance between who we are and who we pretend to be for the sake of comfort or peace. Emotions, even the difficult ones, are signals guiding us toward self-awareness.  When we ignore them, we lose touch with our authentic selves.  The more we suppress, the ...
