I was watching a video yesterday where a teacher did an interesting experiment . She divided students into two groups and gave them 3 same problem solving task. One group was told to raise their hands as soon as they finished. The other group just had to do the task no hand raising involved. Now here’s the twist… By the second round, the group without the hand- raising instruction began to slow down. As the first group raised their hands the second group looked around. They felt like they were falling behind. They hesitated. By the third question,some of them even started doubting themselves,getting confused, overwhelmed by a task they could have easily done.And their speed slowed down. The teacher used this setup to demonstrate a powerful concept - Learned helplessness. This helped me understand and connect the dots to why so many of us are stuck in the victim mindset.
