Why Do You Feel Stuck? (And It’s Not Because You’re Weak)

I was watching a video yesterday where a teacher did an interesting experiment .

She divided students into two groups and gave them 3 same problem solving task.

One group was told to raise their hands as soon as they finished.

The other group just had to do the task no hand raising involved.

Now here’s the twist…

By the second round, the group without the hand- raising instruction began to slow down.

As the first group raised their hands the second group looked around.

They felt like they were falling behind.

They hesitated.

By the third question, some of them even started doubting themselves, getting confused, overwhelmed by a task they could have easily done. And their speed slowed down.

The teacher used this setup to demonstrate a powerful concept - Learned helplessness.

This helped me understand and connect the dots to why so many of us are stuck in the victim mindset.

It's because of learned helplessness.

What is learned helplessness?

It’s when someone experiences failure or feels stuck or powerless in a situation and they carry that helplessness into future situations.

And slowly, they stop trying.

You felt helpless at one point in your life…

And now, you're unconsciously projecting that same helplessness onto everything else.

That’s why you feel stuck.

Not because you're incapable.

Not because you're lazy.

Not because you’re not smart.

But because you’ve internalized a moment of helplessness and let it define how you see yourself today.

You start believing you’re not capable, even when you are.

You hesitate, even when you know the answer.

You overthink, even when the solution is simple.

It’s not weakness.

It’s a scar from the past that needs awareness and healing.

That shift from “I failed” to “I am a failure” is what keeps you trapped.

But here’s the truth,

You are not helpless.

It was a feeling you felt in a given moment.

And that's not who you are.

It's the story you told yourself at that moment and carried it all along.

And the moment you recognize that…

You begin to break free.

Now is the time to unlearn what's not helping you.

Love,

Pratiksha

P.S.-Have you experienced this?

Where in your life is the learned helplessness showing up?

And how is it impacting your life?
