The more you numb yourself, the more you bury who you truly are

Image
At just 8 years old, I unknowingly adopted a survival strategy—numbing myself. Whenever I felt uncomfortable emotions I couldn’t express, I turned to television as my escape. And so, the avoidance continued. Even as an adult I avoided uncomfortable emotions by watching television, mobile, and living in an alternate fantasy world to avoid the discomfort and to feel temporary good. But here’s the truth- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳,𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲. When we numb ourselves—whether through distractions like social media, food, work, or any other escape—we push down our real emotions and avoid facing what’s truly going on inside us.  Over time, this creates distance between who we are and who we pretend to be for the sake of comfort or peace. Emotions, even the difficult ones, are signals guiding us toward self-awareness.  When we ignore them, we lose touch with our authentic selves.  The more we suppress, the ...

Have you ever felt guilty about being privileged?

Have you ever felt guilty about being privileged? Have you ever felt you aren’t worthy of your success because you’re privileged? Why Privileged People Deserve Their Success Without Guilt- 1. Society Glorifies Struggle: Society often values effort as the ultimate measure of success, creating the belief that hard work is the only way to "earn" accomplishments. However, success is a combination of effort, strengths, and circumstances—not just struggle. 2. Privilege is Not a Choice: Natural talents, easier learning, or better opportunities are gifts a person is born with, not something they chose. These gifts don’t diminish the worthiness of their achievements. 3. Success is Multifaceted: Privilege doesn’t invalidate success; it’s just one factor. Strengths like intelligence, strategic thinking, and resourcefulness also contribute, and these don’t always require visible effort. 4. Effort Isn’t the Only Measure: Just because success came with less struggle doesn’t mean it’s undes...

Win The War,Not The Battles

Image
I was reflecting on something last night. Do I really need to have the last word in every argument? If so why? Where is it coming from? And how is it impacting the relationships? And I remember what my mentor said- Win the war not the battle. You cannot win an argument, because even if you win you lose it in the long term. So win the war not the battle. Relationships are work. Frictions, differences in opinions are part of it. But how I am managing them, shows the future of my relationships. Do I really win the petty battles or win the important war? What's your war? What battles are you fighting? Is that necessary? Love, Pratiksha

Are you seeking attention negatively without realising?

Image
We all want to be noticed and appreciated, but have you ever considered that sometimes we seek attention through immature ways without realizing it?  This can harm how others see us.It makes them doubt our reliability. You might get attention, but the impression you're leaving is that you're irresponsible. This kind of behavior often comes from unconscious patterns we’ve developed from childhood but they no longer serve us as adults. As children, acting this way may have helped us avoid responsibilities or get away with mistakes.People may have forgiven you easily because you were a child, but now you are an adult, and expected to act like one. As adults, we are expected to take responsibility, not avoid it. We’re also expected to own our mistakes. Avoiding it by being victim, makes you look childish and leads to loss of trust and respect. If you don’t want to take certain responsibilities, isn’t it better to address them directly rather than acting immaturely?  Have the courage...

If you've done something for someone and you're feeling hurt because they aren't recognizing your efforts or showing gratitude, here's something important to remember. Often, when we do things for others, it's because those actions mattered to us at the time.  We rarely do anything purely for others; there’s always a part of us that cared about the situation, the person, or the outcome. That's why we chose to act. When things go wrong and we start thinking, "I've done so much for them," it can lead to bitterness. Instead of framing it that way, remind yourself that you did what you did because it mattered to you then. You acted out of love or fear of loosing or for connection or recognition or any other desire. Half the time we give ourselves permission to think badly about others because we think Godly about ourselves, not recognising & accepting that we are also human who have desires and what we did is out of some kind of desire. It served us ...
